U14's Match Reports

Copmanthorpe 0 Scotton Scorchers 3

Another close encounter, nil, nil at half time with the Scorchers coming out winners in the end. We made some changes to the formation for this game, which seemed to work well. The Scorchers had lots of possession but couldnt get ahead in a frantic first half. Alyson in goal was fairly untroubled in the first half and with good distribution got the team on to good attacking positions. Bethan sat in front of the defence providing great protection to Chloe, Amelia, and Charlotte. Georgia in the middle enabled Abbie A and Abbie G to get forward with Emma and Ella down the wings and Caroline up front. The team joined up play really well kept the ball and passed it well. Naimh had a stint on the left of midfield and created chance after chance with great crossing and tackling back. Abby A, received a pass, took on the defender held her off and slotted the ball home, one nil!!. Caroline who had been a real handful all morning got in on half a chance and scored a great goal. But the game wasnt over, Copmanthorpe rallied and tried some long range efforts, one in particular with real power seemed to be a certain goal, somehow Alyson managed to scoop the ball away for a corner. Abby G, who had been running circles round our opponents then went on an amazing run ending with a fabulous finish in the final few minutes game over! Abby G was girl of the game.

Scotton Scorchers 5 Cayton 0

Encounters with Cayton over the last few years have always been close, last season a draw and a 1 nil win (i think) so we needed to be ready for a tough game. The girls started at 90 miles an hour and with brilliant flowing football the goals went in, a first half hat trick for Caroline showing just why she scores so many, resolute, chases every chance, great right foot, great strength and stays cool under pressure. Our other was a peach and Abby A's second in consecutive weeks, both similar with great control, at pace and a powerful finish. The only cloud was a nasty knock which meant Naimh had to come off, so Amelia on in defence (in spite of a nasty knock from School football) and Abby A back on. The game levelled up with Alyson joining midfield and Abby G and Emma having periods in goal (thanks girls). Alyson continued with the teams attacking play and great passing. As the final minutes ticked by a great cross from the left was forced home by Caroline to leave the score 5.0. A great game and thanks to Paul who refereed. Andy and i couldnt decide who was girl of the game, with several names being discussed, in the end a real team effort with solid defending from Chloe, defensive midfield from Charlotte (new position) fancy play from Abby A, and flair from Ella but in the end we gave it to Caroline for another fine display and 4 more goals.
