U14's Battle At The Bridge

Stamford Bridge 1 Scorchers 3

With pitches across the County waterlogged we had watched the weather all week hoping the game would be on. Friday night arrived and confirmation that we were on and also two late injury worries meant we would have to work hard to get a result against a Stamford Bridge team who have always shared fairly even games with us.

We started with 8 players and a plan not to concede no striker and to try and break when we could. The girls put the plan in to practice and then went one better with a lovely through ball to Caroline who held off the defender to put the ball in the net wirh a well placed left footed shot enabling the Scorchers to take the lead. We soon got back to 9 players but SB were straight back at us and we needed resolute defending from Charlotte in the middle, Amelia on the left and Chloe on the right. However SB havent been beaten for 8 games and put the pressure on leading to several shots which were wide of target or dealt with by Alyson who was again outstanding in goal. However SB got the break and we went in at half time 1.1.

With no subs we kep the same format, made a few changes and set the girls some challenges. Emma came in more central and partnered Charlotte, Chloe read the game brilliantly and Amelia tackled with style and purpose. Abby switched from attack to defence with real effect, Naimh on the right stopped the SB attack and created attacks of our own and Ella started feeding Caroline more effectively.

The girls again delivered with two crisp well taken goals from Caroline sealing a really hard fought and deserved win. Girl of the game was Ella, for creative play, quality passing and defensive cover.

Sausages and chips all round as the girls enjoy the taste of success!!!
