On a damp morning at York RI the U11s started their new season. The girls were warmly welcomed by York RI despite the wet weather and York eagerly awaited their first ever game together as a squad.
Due to varying reasons the Scorchers only had the 7 players which made decision making very easy for the coach!
Scotton girls took advantage of York's inexperience and started with their great passing and soon had a 2 goal lead. Goals coming from Olivia and Connie.
York however though were not going to roll over and they got stronger as the game went on and as they settled and got used to the game they pulled a goal back before half time to make the score 2-1 to the scorchers.
In the second half captain Connie got her second and Scotton's third goal to make the score 3-1 and calm their coaches nerves!!
Again though the plucky RI girls came back again and scored their second to make the score 3-2 to Scotton and the game ebbed and flowed back and forth as both teams went on the attack which is where the goalkeepers from both teams started to shine and show their skills with both keepers pulling off great saves.
Despite lots of shots and some superb football from all the players the scored remained 3-2 and the girls had got off to a great start to their season. York had also played very well and can only get even better than they already are.
Scotton's girl of the game was Ella Brophy for some superb positional play, tough tackling and great passing, well done Ella on your Scorchers debut.
Well done to all players it was a fantastic game to watch and played in a superb atmosphere.
Thankyou to York RI for a warm welcome and a special mention to your parents/supporters who conducted themselves superbly and made all the girls feel very comfortable to play in a fun environment. You are truly an asset to Junior girls football and we look forward to welcoming you all to Scotton later in the season.
GO SCORCHERS!
