On Saturday morning with the rain coming down and the temperature not as warm as we'd all like the U11s girls ventured across to York to play Wigginton Grasshoppers GJFC.
Everybody was wondering if the game was on but on arrival the pitch was fine and Wigginton warmly welcomed the girls so it was game on.
The Scorchers started very brightly and made light of the damp conditions and soon got into their now famous passing style. They were switching play from one side to another and captain Grace was urging her team forward but unfortunately they got caught a few times by a more direct attacking style from Wigginton and went into half time without scoring themselves.
In the second half Scotton went a bit more direct themselves and matched the Grasshoppers and had the better of the play in my humble opinion and the highlight of the second half was Abbey running down the middle of the pitch beating a couple of players and then dummying the goalie by not actually shooting and the ball just rolled past the keeper, great goal.
So first half went to Wigginton and the second half to Scotton but ultimately Wiggy won the game and everybody came off happy again.
Scotton's girl of the game today was Aimee with some great runs and superb tough tackling, a great all round performance. She has settled in nicely already and it's great to see that smile on her face.
I'd just like to say a big thankyou to Wigginton for a lovely friendly welcome and a fantastic morning of football played in a lovely atmosphere. Great club and good luck with the rest of the season.
GO SCORCHERS!
