From the first whistle to the last an enthralling encounter, York RI made the better start, creating chances from their pacy striker, but Annabel, making her league debut in goal pulled off some fine saves. Alice and Charlotte in defence stood firm getting tackles in and some great distribution setting up attacks down both wings. The game became very even as the Scorchers found their form and created chances of their own, only to find the York goalkeeper in fine form, tipping one fine shot over the bar and Niamh having two free shots but just not been able to get any power behind the ball. York then took the lead beating our defence down their right and their striker coolly slotted the ball home with Annabel unable to reach the shot. Half time one nil.
In the second half Charlotte Bowe came on in defence and Dumile went on as the lone striker. The Scorchers stepped up the pace and had the better of the second half with chances being created but not quite put away, Ella, hit over and then wide, then had chances saved, Emma, got crosses in and had a shot of her own, Dumile, bamboozled their defence with great trickery and twists and turns, Georgia controlled the midfield, setting up attack after attack but the goal just would not come, then Ella took flight, and went round player after player, taking the ball deep in to the penalty area before almost running the ball in to the net to make sure there was no mistake, one goal each and 5 minutes to go. Everyone held their breadth as the girls put together some tremendous football but time after time were thwarted by the York defence. Final Score 1.1. girl of the game, Annabel for some fantastic saves and great distribution. Well done girls. Unfortunately there was no pitch available for a friendly, fortunately we had got all our girls on the pitch in the first game.
